The Travel Foundation has introduced a set of proposals aimed at addressing the impact of tourism on climate change. Among the key recommendations is the creation of an official list identifying destinations that are particularly vulnerable to environmental threats. This initiative seeks to raise awareness and encourage travelers to consider the ecological footprint of their journeys.
In addition, the foundation is advocating for a reduction in high-emission short breaks, which often contribute significantly to carbon emissions. By discouraging such travel, the organization hopes to promote more sustainable tourism practices that prioritize longer, more meaningful trips that have a lesser environmental impact.
These proposals are set to be discussed at the upcoming COP 30 conference in November, where stakeholders from the tourism sector will gather to explore innovative solutions for a more sustainable future. The establishment of a climate justice fund is also on the agenda, aimed at supporting communities affected by climate change and promoting equitable tourism practices.
